Abstract: Can a merely good company become a truly great one, and if so, how? According to Jim Collins, a key component of what it takes to shift a company from good to great is a Level 5 leader. In this article Collins describes Level 5 leaders as a combination of humility and will; “a study in duality: modest and willful, shy and fearless.” As Collins points out, Abe Lincoln was an example of this duality, while Lee Iococca was the antithesis.
The findings of a five-year research project of companies that have gone from good to great (and sustained this transformation) and the characteristics of their CEOs is thoroughly outlined in this informative article.
