Jeffrey R. Immelt
Interview by Thomas A. Stewart
Published in Harvard Business Review, June 2006
Reprint R06060C

Abstract: Under Jeffrey Immelt’s leadership, GE has boldly aimed at moving from a culture of productivity to a culture of organic growth; growing organically two to three times faster than world GDP. In order to achieve this ambitious goal, Immelt is focused on growth as a process. GE is not secretive about the elements of this process (a process that is thoroughly explained in this article) because they believe “the payoff is not in the diagram but in the doing” and is made possible only by inspiring and developing great leaders.

In this captivating interview with Jeffrey Immelt, he describes how with this process, GE “makes it personal” for individual managers and how GE aims to achieve their goals.
